Youth Ceramics: Wheel-Throwing (Ages 9-13)

Instructor: Emily Tatro

In this course students will learn ceramic skills while developing confidence in their artistic voice. We will focus on the fundamentals of wheel-thrown pottery including centering, pulling walls, and trimming. Class periods will include demos, sketching, and work time where students can ask questions, get support, and learn from each other’s ideas and innovations.

Students will be given the opportunity to personalize their work with hand-built elements and be introduced to ceramic surface options through drawing and glazing techniques.

This course is great for beginner to intermediate students who are excited to dive in, get a bit messy and have fun creating!

Tuition includes class time/instruction and all materials.

This class is open to students ages 8-13.

Instructor: Emily Tatro

Emily Tatro is an artist and art educator working in painting, ceramics and sculpture. She is a graduate of the Cornell University MFA program, and holds a BFA in visual art and ethnography from Marlboro College. She has participated in residencies in the United States and France, and exhibited in the Northeast US, New York City (Ortega y Gasset Projects, StudioNineDee), and Beijing, China. Her work is populated by characters, symbols and landscapes drawn from personal, art historical, or ethereal sources and relates to non-linear time, animism and the sentience of natural systems. She lives in Brattleboro, VT.
