Dear friends of Marlboro Studio School,

We’re writing with exciting news — and a heartfelt invitation to be part of what comes next.

The Marlboro Studio School is entering a new chapter following the departure of our former executive director, David Eichelberger (we wish him the best in his new faculty position in Louisiana!) and the appointment of Hannah Brookman as our new director. Under Hannah’s leadership, we’re embracing a big and ambitious vision for the future, reimagining the Studio School as a place where artists and craftspeople can come together for meaningful residential residencies, creative exchange, experimentation, and community — alongside and in collaboration with the generous and vibrant community of The Campus at Marlboro Music.

Instead of our usual Fall Semester programming, we’ve put together a series of activities and events that bring our community together while helping us reach our $200,000 fundraising goal. We hope you’ll participate, make something, bid on something, and help us build the future of the Marlboro Studio School.

Works in Support is a gallery showcase and auction featuring work generously donated by Marlboro Studio School alumni and friends. Their contributions are a testament to their belief in the Studio School and their support for this next chapter.

Auction Closing & Celebration: Sunday, December 13

Save the date! We’ll gather in the Whittemore Theatre Lobby at 5:30 for the Works in Support auction closing and to celebrate the artists and community members who have helped make this project possible. By that point, not only will the artwork in Works in Support be on display and available for bidding, but so will the collection of handmade mugs created during our Mug Making Marathon!

Our closing event coincides with a selection of exciting events on the Campus at Marlboro Music. Following these events, we’ll celebrate the artists who contributed to Works in Support, including Tim Segar, Cathy Osman, Nina Nabizadeh, Hilary Baker, Michel Moyse, and many more as we count down to the 6:00 PM closing of our auction fundraiser!

The afternoon will include:

• Marlboro Music Residency Concert: Ayane Nakajima, piano
  Sunday, December 13 from 2:00–3:30 pm, Serkin Center for the Arts

• In Conversation: Bill McKibben & Tim Weed
  Sunday, December 13 from 4:00–5:00 pm, Whittemore Theatre

• Works in Support Auction Closing Reception (light refreshments)
  Sunday, December 13 at 5:30 pm, Whittemore Theatre Lobby (online auction open for bidding until 6:00 pm)

These gatherings are part of a larger vision for Marlboro Studio School: to create a place where master craftspeople and artists from our region and around the world can come to teach, work, and share their knowledge; where traditional, heritage, and international handcrafts can be preserved, revived, and carried forward; and where excellence in making can flow both into and out of our beautiful Marlboro community. We envision the Studio School as a place for hands-on arts learning and meaningful creative exchange — a place where craft education builds practical, transferable skills for a new generation of makers and artists.

We hope you’ll bid in the auction, come make a mug, join us for glazing, bring a friend, and help us build this next chapter together. The Marlboro Studio School is growing! We’d love to grow it with you.
